Coping with the lost of a loved one

My dear friend lost her sister this week to a disease called Lupus. It is an auto immune disease that causes the immune system to attack the body's own tissues and organs. Eighty to ninety percent of people diagnosed usually live a normal life span. However there is a ten to twenty percent who do not due to complex complications causing severe illness which eventually leads to death. My friend's older sister had battled the disease for 15 years. When the doctors first diagnosed it, they estimated she would live for only 10 years an average given to anyone who is diagnosed with this disease.

I have been friends with my girl friend for about 20 years and although I wasn't close to her older sister I saw how much her family loved her. My heart goes out to my dear friend who has lost her only sibling and her best friend. Having a brother I simply can not imagine the pain and heartbreak she is experiencing. My heart also goes out to her mother who is naturally devastated to have lost one of her beloved daughters. A mother never expects to out live her children.

My friend and her family are in my thoughts and prayers. God bless them and give them the strength to get through this diificult time. It is moments like this that makes us take a look at our own lives and truly appreciate all the riches a family brings.
