Valentine Weekend

First off let me begin with my husband does not believe in weekend long celebrations for a holiday or a birthday as I do. When I asked what we were doing for Valentine's Day weekend, he asked what day does it fall on? I said Monday and he replied well we will celebrate it on Monday! Really I thought for a split second and shook my head..nope we are celebrating this weekend. Although life isn't a party ALL the time, we can certainly enjoy special days such as Valentine's day and turn it it a weekend long event. We did just that.

It began Saturday morning with Ava's first gymnastics class for Tots. Unfortunately Vic had to work this Saturday so it was just Ava & I. She got really excited when we entered. Each instructor has about ten children. I must say Ava wasn't the best listener but I think that was due to her being super excited and all the stimulus around. I may have gotten more of a work out chasing her then she did. However the instructor assured me that it does get easier with each session. They come to understand the routine and circuit of activities. So everything went well until the bitter end when it came time to leave. She wailed at the top of her lungs and cried out nooooo Mommy...sob...sob...bouncy bouncy! (translation = the trampoline). sob sob.. She finally settled down minutes later on the road. Let's hope next week's exit goes smoother!

So I have been craving sugar cookies for a while and just had to makes these this weekend. My friend Jackie made these last year for Valentine's and we loved them. She was kind enough to share her recipe.

Chill the dough and then roll them out into whatever shape you desire. Next is the fun part of decorating with icing and sprinkles. They may not be perfect, but they are imperfectly pretty and sweet!

Ava was so funny while I was snapping these pictures, she kept taking the raspberries off the plate and eating them :)

After baking, it was off to meet Grandpa & Grandma for lunch. Ava fell asleep on the way. We took her car seat out AGAIN and she slept through the ENTIRE lunch! This just happened this Thursday when Vic & I went out for dinner after work. Ava never took her usual nap and fell asleep on the way and slept through that ENTIRE dinner. Any parent of toddlers knows how challenging it can be to dine out with these little ones. So when they are able to sleep through it and give us a break it is certainly a welcomed treat!

After our bellies were stuffed, it was off to Grandpa & Grandma's for treats & play time.

Hope everyone got to celebrate Valentine's weekend with their loves.
