Ava brings sunshine to Avo

Today Ava and I were out running errands - grocerry shopping. On our way home I looked in my rear view mirror and noticed my parents were in the car behind us at the stop light. They were on their way to visit my grandmother (my mom's mom whom we call Avo) at the nursing home. She's been there since Sept. 1st. It has been a very tough ordeal to place her in the nursing for my parents. She had been living with them at home for the last 23 years. But Avo who is 97 years old has not been doing well. Not only has her old age taken it's toll but she also has dementia and she needs around the clock care. Anyhow we joined them in their visit. It was our visit to the nursing home, we were waiting for her to adjust to this new environment. I was taken back by how much Avo has aged in a month. To me she always looked younger than her age but today she looked much older. As soon as she saw Ava, she lite up and was so happy to her. She had forgotten who she was but once we told her, she understood. It was a bittersweet visit, I got teary at how much Avo had aged and my mom got teary at how happy she became with Ava's visit. It's amazing how seeing a child can bring so much happiness. We will visit Avo much more often and bring some more sunshine to her days.
